We pledge to use whatever sway we have over the implementation of AGI to ensure that it is used for the good of all, and to refrain from approving applications of AI or AGI that endanger mankind or unjustly centralise power.
Humanity is our main fiduciary responsibility. We expect to need to mobilise significant resources to complete our purpose, but we will always work aggressively to reduce conflicts of interest among our stakeholders and workers that could undermine overall benefit.

We are dedicated to conducting the necessary research to ensure the safety of AGI and to promoting the widespread adoption of such research throughout the AI community.
We worry that advanced AGI development will turn into a race without enough time for safety measures. Therefore, we promise to cease competing with and start helping this project if it manages to develop AGI before a value-aligned, safety-conscious project does. A common triggering condition may be "a better-than-even possibility of success in the next two years," but specifics will be worked out in case-by-case agreements.
Technical Direction
OpenAI needs to be at the forefront of AI development in order to effectively address the effects of AGI on society; just advocating for good policies and safety would not be enough.
